How to Care for Your Candles
To get the most out of your WICK WORX candles and ensure a safe, clean burn every time, follow these simple care tips:
Before You Light
- Trim the wick: Before each burn, trim the wick to 5mm (¼ inch). This helps prevent smoking, uneven burning, and excessive flame height.
- Check the surface: Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, flammable materials, and out of reach of children and pets.
- Clear the wax pool: Remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax before lighting.
While Burning
- First burn matters: Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container on the first burn (usually 2-4 hours). This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life.
- Don't burn too long: Limit burning time to 4 hours at a time. This helps maintain the quality of the fragrance and prevents the container from overheating.
- Keep the flame visible: Never leave a burning candle unattended or burn it where you cannot see it.
- Avoid drafts: Keep candles away from fans, air vents, and open windows to prevent uneven burning and smoking.
After Burning
- Extinguish safely: Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Avoid using the lid to extinguish as this can cause smoke damage.
- Let it cool: Allow the candle to cool completely before touching, moving, or relighting (at least 2 hours).
- Center the wick: While the wax is still soft, gently re-center the wick if needed using a wick dipper or similar tool.
Storage & Maintenance
- Store properly: Keep candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and melting.
- Use a lid: When not in use, cover your candle with its lid to keep dust out and preserve the fragrance.
- Know when to stop: Discontinue use when only 10mm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom to prevent heat damage to the surface below.
Safety First
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials
- Don't move a candle while it's burning or the wax is liquid
- Never use water to extinguish a candle
- Ensure the room is well-ventilated
Following these simple steps will help you enjoy your WICK WORX candles safely and get the maximum burn time and fragrance from each one.
